Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted Russian citizenship to singer and actress Natalia Oreiro and her son. The corresponding decree of the head of state was published on Monday on the portal of official legal acts.
“Adopt the following persons into the citizenship of the Russian Federation: Oreiro Iglesias Natalia Marisa, who was born on May 19, 1977 in Uruguay, with her son Molio Oreiro, Merlin Atahualpa, who was born on January 26, 2012 in Argentina,” the document says.
In June 2020, Natalia Oreiro said in an interview with TASS that she was applying for Russian citizenship and had already submitted documents at that time. She also recalled that a year earlier she jokingly told about her desire to become a citizen of the Russian Federation in the program of the First Channel “Evening Urgant”. According to the singer and actress, the host of the program Ivan Urgant called her “the most Russian among foreign women,” and then she retorted that “Putin should have been given” her citizenship. At the same time, as Oreiro admitted, obtaining Russian citizenship is an honor for her.
