Natalia will take Russian citizenship
As it emerged in the last hours, Natalia Oreiro will become a citizen of Russia. The singer and actress revealed to the press that the process has already begun and that, probably at the end of the pandemic, she will settle in that country with her family. Ricardo Mollo’s wife confirmed to the TASS Agency that her Russian citizenship is already applied for, but was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic. “Once I went to the embassy for various matters. I travel so extensively and have so many ties to Russia that they asked me if I might like to formalize this. I said it would be an honor for me. So I filed a lot of documents that they asked me for to deliver, and now this is being considered”, said the singer in the interview. “When it is all over I will go and sing there. We will celebrate 2021 together,” said Oreiro, also a Unesco goodwill ambassador for the Río de la Plata.
Regarding this novelty, in the last hours an ESPN report, dating from the end of 2017, went viral and was filmed shortly before the 2018 World Cup in Russia began. In the report, a mobile phone operator found that the majority of those interviewed recognized her and not Lionel Messi, one of the most famous soccer players on the planet. The close link between Oreiro and Eastern Europe began in the late 1990’s, when the soap opera Muñeca Brava (Wild angel) – which she co-starred with Facundo Arana – achieved unexpected popularity in that region of the continent. Her musical foray only affirmed the romance between the Uruguayan and the nations of the former Soviet Union.
